Galle Face Hotel carries a legacy that resonate the modern history of then Ceylon. It was once a mansion of a British Governor established in 1864 build by the renowned architect Thomas Skinner. During the late 19th century it was known as the best hotel east of Suez. Today it stands proudly one side facing the Galle Face green and the other facing the Indian ocean. Whilst the modern structures surrounding the Galle Face hotel, it manages to preserve its unique architecture unchanged. After the refurbishments completed in 2015, the hotel looks fabulous with its new interior and painting.
Galle Face hotel is located probably the best location of Colombo, and its ideal for those who visit Colombo to taste the best of the city. The quaint building has its charm while you may ignore the slow service which is the only negative note. The best experience of the hotel is enjoying your lunch at the ‘Verandah’ over looking the ocean, or high tea watching some of the best sunset you’d ever see in a capital city.
