To begin with, let me state the obvious which attracts thousands every year.
Most popular among them are the Beaches, which undoubtedly offers the best beach experiences in Asia. As the West-coast offers a young vibe with plenty of activities, the South coast offer a pristine beach tucked away from all the rest. It has few luxury boutique resorts which offer a luxury stay. Beach of Tangalle which is located in the southernmost corner has just added another luxury hotel.
The east-coast is slowly but steadily coming up with its luxury resorts. It has been untouched for decades for obvious reasons and as it is discovered many states east coast of Sri Lanka ( Trincomalee, Pasikuda and Arugam-bay) probably has the best of beaches in Sri Lanka.
Arugam Bay offers Surfing and it is truly a haven for surfers alike where it is named one of the top ten surfing spots in the world!
Culture the exotic Buddhist ruins of Sri Lanka is ever-intriguing. Cultural tri-angle which consist of Anuradhapura, Dambulla caves, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Kandy. All these locations are UNESCO World Heritage Sites highlights of your visit in Sri Lanka. Its fascinating history will float your mind away thousands of years in the past. What you will find through an experience guide is enlightening!
The other most popular is the Yala Safari the most visited national park in the country where the sight of leopards are what many urge to see. You could stay in one of the conventional hotels near the park, but we strongly recommend to try our luxury camping site with Leopard Trails which comes along with expert naturalists and an all inclusive package. Yala also has a semi-luxury camping with Secret Yala.
Did you know that there is another lesser traveled park call Wilpattu national park on the north-west of Sri Lanka? it is 2 hours drive from Anuradhapura. Though it is a lesser traveled park it has a fascinating wild life including the leopards, sloth bear, elephants and many endemic birds. Tropical Vacations work with Leopard Trails who operates luxury camping with expert naturalists to offer the best of Wilpattu. You may feel the entire park is just left for you and you can just stare at those amazing leopards as long as you like. Recommend to combine the holiday with a cultural sight visit to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s fist city and holds one of the most holy Buddhist venues, and pagodas made over 1500 years ago.
The Minneriya National park which is located in the Central-east of Sri Lanka offers a fascinating sight of the elephant gathering every year where one could observe 400-600 elephants at a time! It happens during the month of October. Our naturalists will reveal you the details.
The Gal Oya National Park another lesser known park in Sri Lanka, is a remarkable creation. Its lake has tiny islands scattered where one could catch the sight of elephants swimming between the islands! It is not frequent but not impossible to catch this magnificent sight with correct guidance.
As mentioned earlier, Sri Lanka has the second oldest Royal Golf Club in the world outside the UK. It is the Colombo Royal Golf Club which was founded in 19th century during the British Era. This golf course is not alone, there are two more golf courses made by the British in the late 19th century. Both these are located in the hill country where one is in Kandy the Victoria Golf and country resort and the other is located among the chilled hills of Nuwara Eliya. Victoria Golf chalet has with its enchanting views of the mountain range and the Mahaweli river, and scattered palm trees won a name as the most picturesque golf course in all of Asia!

This eco-friendly hotel is built in the forest, blending the ancient style of architecture unique to Sri Lanka and you will walk on a pathway above the trees to find your rooms as it is built in harmony with the forest. Kitulgala is known to be the centre of Sri Lanka’s adventure sports, offering wide range of activities, white water rafting, climbing, advance trekking, kayaking, canoeing to name the most popular. Our team made a visit to our recommended supplier Borderlands early this year and following is a brief clip of what we attempted, featuring our director, Indira Randeni.
Whale watching is undoubtedly the most popular excursion in Mirissa. Why do it in Sri Lanka? Simply because whales are guaranteed to see and they stay closer than anywhere in the world. Traditionally Sri Lanka offer converted fishing boats which carries about 50-70 passengers at a time on a 2-2:30 hours per way journey. But we at Tropical Vacations provide private boats with a naturalist onboard to make this excursion better than anywhere in the world. Our boats are exclusively given to one party and they reach faster than the rest. It is our addition keeping the holiday in Sri Lanka in luxury.
